About Gerry
Gerry Tsoukalas is a Thinkers50 Radar (2025) selection, recognized as a specialist in AI, digital platforms, and analytics.
He is an Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Information Systems Department at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, a Senior Fellow at the Wharton School, a Research Fellow at Cornell University’s FinTech Initiative, and a Fellow at The Luohan Academy (Alibaba Group).
Professor Tsoukalas specializes in digital platforms and analytics (artificial intelligence/Machine Learning) and is co-founder of the Crypto and Blockchain Economics Research Forum (CBER). Recognized as a Thinkers50 Radar (2025) selection, he has been identified as a leading thinker shaping the future of management and technology (link).
His scholarly work is widely published and has received numerous research awards. He holds Associate Editor positions at Management Science, Operations Research, and M&SOM, and has served as a Guest Department Editor for M&SOM and the Journal of Operations Management. An award-winning educator, he has over a decade of experience teaching undergraduate, MBA, and executive education courses in data analytics, AI, and machine learning at Boston University, the Wharton School, Columbia Business School, and IMD Switzerland.
He completed his undergraduate studies in France, earning degrees in Applied Quantum Physics from the University of Paris and Aeronautical Engineering from the Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace-Supaero in 2005. In the U.S., he received a Master’s in Aeronautics & Astronautics from MIT in 2007 and a PhD from the Management Science & Engineering Department at Stanford University from 2009-2013.
Beyond academia, Professor Tsoukalas has worked extensively with technology, healthcare, and financial services firms, including Intelligencia (AI-driven healthcare), Wisdomise (AI-driven investments), PayPal, Forest Park, Indiegogo, Rabt Inc, Moody’s, and more. He has also engaged in policy work with government agencies and think tanks, such as the Center of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE) and the Wharton Public Policy Initiative (WPPI).
Before transitioning to academia, he worked as a structured products trader at Morgan Stanley in London (2007-2009) and has consulted for startups, investment firms, and hedge funds, including EvA Funds (2010-2011) and Weiss Asset Management (2012-2013). He has also held roles at Barclays Capital (2006) and Société Générale (2005).
